Our Cyber Security Technologist Level 4 Apprenticeship combines online learning, classroom training and on-the-job experience which will enable you to tackle the challenges posed by this rapidly expanding industry. This apprenticeship is an excellent fit if you are currently in a role in the IT sector and you want to specialise in cyber security or if you are new to the cyber security sector and want to advance your skills.

This apprenticeship gives you a great opportunity to develop and enhance your cyber skills, ensuring you have the technical grounding needed to become a skilled security analyst, security architect, or software tester.

Unique to this programme – Cyber Labs

A highlight of your apprenticeship will be QA’s Cyber Labs. This is an experience which immerses you in real life, cyber-attack situations in a purpose-built, controlled, facility uniquely constructed by QA. This hands on practice, held over three days, arms you with the skills to pass your programme whilst giving you an advantage over others who may not have overcome challenges like these before.

Prerequisites

The entry requirements for this programme are as follows:

  • A Levels in Software/Computing
  • Or a Level 3 apprenticeship in a similar subject
  • Or an International Baccalaureate at Level 3 in ICT
  • Or a BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (180 Credits)
  • You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship in a similar subject.

What will you learn?

You will learn essential cyber security skills including:

  • Understanding ethical hacking and penetration testing
  • Learning cryptography and encryption
  • Using open source intelligence (OSI)
  • Understanding the security standard ISO27001: 2013

This will equip you with knowledge and experience to take on job roles such as Security Analyst, Information Security Officer, Penetration Tester and Cyber Operations Manager.

Outline

During the programme you’ll be required to spend 20% of your time at work on off-the-job learning.

You will complete:

  1. Twelve knowledge modules teaching advanced security theory and its practical application, through a combination of online learning and practical classroom workshops – including QA’s Cyber Lab.
  2. A work-based portfolio showcasing how you’ve demonstrated the skills you’ve learnt in real work projects.
  3. A synoptic project where you will take a business and technical brief in order to build a finished product.
  4. An end-point assessment interview carried out by BCS – The Chartered Institute for IT – to assess whether you have successfully met the learning requirements of the programme.
